INDIGENOUS GARDEN at The Star of the Sea Primary School
Henley Beach. South Australia.
Working with Year 4/5 students during Science lessons we looked at the indigenous plants of the area (traditionally a sand dune with coastal vegetation.). The students then planted a garden of them around their new play space environment. To inform others about each plant they decided to create these interpretive signs to tell others about them. From observation drawing lessons students drew the leaf shapes that became the shapes for the actual sign. Each sign had the plants name, relevant details and picture of the plant/tree painted on them. They were installed along with a sign showing the coastal vegetation transect of a dune.
